About This Item

UK,slim 8vo p/back Original,1st edn. [(UK),paperback Original denotes the first format and its first appearance in print of the book/title. Paperbacks usually follow on from the HB edn,but can be published at the same time as the HB edn,but p/back originals are published prior to any other format. This is the first UK publication though it was first published US,H/back 1st edn by Zeising in 1984.] NMINT.No owner inscrptn and no price removal to rear cover - wrapped and protected from day of issue.Publisher's original,sharp-cornered,bright,crisp, clean, colour pictorial artwork by Neil Breedon, illustrated front panel of dw/dj with red+black lettering, black letters to white spine/backstrip,rear panel with white background to story precis and critics' reviews. Negligible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present,NO reading creases to spine/backstrip.Top+fore- edges very lightly toned through ageing but without any blemishes or thumbing; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - unread, apart from my own collation.UK,slim 8vo p/back Original,1st edn,7-256pp [paginated] includes 18 chapters, plus [unpaginated] author's potted biog and critics' reviews, title page and a dedication.
Written by the author in the winter and spring of 1960,in Point Reyes Station, California. It was written on commission for,but not published by Harcourt,Brace and Company in New York.Like the ten other mainstream (non-science fiction) in the previous five years it went unpublished at the time it was written. In the sequence of Dick's work, this work was written immediately after 'Confessions of a Crap Artist' - see my book ID rja897620 for UK,p/back 1st,and the next book that Dick wrote was 'The Man in the High Castle' the Hugo-Award winning science fiction novel that ushered in the next stage of Dick's career.
He is too excitable and too pushy. His wife drinks too much.He may be a man of principle, but Leo Runcible of Runcible Realty is an outsider in Carquinez,Marin County. When he gets into an argument with his neighbour Walt Dombrosio, the resulting ramifications follow a bizarre logic of cause and effect to lead in entirely unexpected directions . . .
