Brown boards with ornate gold gilt titles on spine. TITLING REMAINS BRIGHT. Large octavo, original cloth, 239 pages [text printed in two columns] (followed by 4 pages of adverts). ILLUSTRATED with a frontispiece portrait and text vignettes. An important, early novel dealing with domestic violence, and marriage laws in Ireland and Scotland. A bright, clean copy. Signed and dated on two front end-papers by former owners Mr. & Mrs. A. B. Wiswall of Newton Lake Falls, Mass. Sept. 1869.
