With 59 b&w illustrations from photographs. This is a remarkable book about a woman who was courageous, sensual, talented and ruthless. Mary Wesley (1912-2002) was the pseudonym derived from the family name of Wellesley and her real name of Mary Farmar. Born before the first world war, she published her first novel aged seventy and went on to write nine bestsellers, (many of which were concerned with multiple wartime love affairs) including The Camomile Lawn which was made into a celebrated TV series. In WWII she 'was roped into Intelligence' where she worked on breaking codes, and MI5 and her rackety life during the Blitz eventually inspired her novels. She talked freely to the author, yet took some of her secrets to the grave, leaving behind a number of fascinating clues. .
