New York: W. W. Norton & Company, 1974. First Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 1974 FIRST PRINTING OF FIRST EDTION. Original blue cloth with gilt and black lettering spine. The book is in excellent condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, clean covers, solid binding. The original dust jacket is clean, has no tears, tiny speck of rubbing near top of spine, clipped lower front flap corner but original printed price is still present on the upper front flap corner. First printings of this book in nice condition are surprisingly uncommon. Many later printings and a Book Club edition followed this first printing.The book measures 214mm tall x 135mm, 286 pages, 25 b/w photos, bibliography, index. Mountaineering and outdoors text by organizer of National Outdoor Leadership School. Petzoldt made 1st double traverse in a day of Matterhorn and was first (with Houston) to reach summit pyramid on K2. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
