Portland, ME: L.H. Nelson Co, 1905. 20 x 25 cm. This is an adoring portrait of the founder of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, intended for children. Frances Willard was born in 1839 in Churchville, NY; when she was two, family moved to Oberlin, OH, then moved to Janesville, WI. In 1871 she became president of Evanston College for Ladies. Frances became involved in the temperance movement, and with Neal Dow, the ""apostle of temperance"" soon organized the WCTU. She died in 1898. Paper booklet, cover worn, lightly soiled, fair. .
