About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1948. 1st Edition 5th or later Printing. Hardback. Good. First edition, fifth impression. Hardback, bound in blue cloth with gilt titling to spine. 22.5 × 15cm, 256pp. This copy has two previous owner's signatures. Firstly, the book is signed by C H Dodd, the Welsh New Testament scholar and influential Protestant theologian, and secondly by author and historian, Dr J T Driver, a specialist in 15th century political history. Historian C V Wedgwood's biography of William the Silent (William of Orange) the main leader of the Dutch Revolt against the Spanish Habsburgs that set off the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648) and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1581. Condition: A good copy. The cloth is rubbed and a little bumped to the corners, and the pages a bit tanned but otherwise in strong readable condition, and with the added attraction of having had notable previous owners.
