Hardcover first edition, published by The Dietz Press, 1935. Extracts, letters and documents on daily life in colonial Williamburg, selected from 'The Virginia Gazette'. Subjects include; daily life and events such as marriages and deaths, crimes and unusual events such as the Chiswell-Routledge duel, stories of slave ships, and convict ships, the first theater in America, the food and drink of the times, news od business and mercantile trades, and much more! 163 pages with Index, 6-3/4" X 9-3/4". Thick hard cover blue cloth covered boards, with the title in gold on the spine and the 'Don't Tread on Me' shield illustration on the front board. Some edge wear to the cover, a bump mark on the front fore edge. Some wear to the tips of the corners, and rubbing wear on the lettering on the spine, though faded, it is still legible. Some fraying to the edges at the head and heel of the spine panel. Former owner's name written on the top edge of the first flyleaf page and dated 1935. Former owner's name also written on the flyleaf page facing the title page too. No further writing besides that though. Includes 8 full page illustrations by Elmo Jones. Rough cut edges to the fore edge of the text block. Top edge of the text block has some age tanning spots. Binding is tight and square. Not a library discard copy. The attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
