Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran & Co/Crime Club, 1944. First U. S. edition of this early Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte mystery, with the map of Carie in the far west of New South Wales. Bony is back in the Australian bush country to investigate two stranglings that occured the year before. Bumped and rubbed, spine a bit cocked with the lower edge of the front board darkened. Tape residue and darkening to the end papers. Jacket rubbed with chips and tears, including a 1" chip to the lower front panel near the flap fold and a bit of loss to the spine head. Damp stains to the front flap and the upper and lower rear panel, tape residue to the flaps. $2.00 price intact, in new mylar. Laid in is The Bony Bulletin, No. 25, July 1988. A 6 page fanzine, this issue includes a reprint of a map Upfield included in his personal Christmas card which shows the location of each Bony mystery to that time (along with the editor's quibbles over the accuracy of Upfield's map.) Scarce in jacket. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Good/Fair.
