FIRST EDITION. This is Millay's "heartfelt tribute to the magnificence of man," which predicts the eventual extinction of mankind with its last section, Epitaph For the Race of Man. The work was composed as Millay reflected on events in Europe and was convinced that the world seemed ready to go to war yet again.
