About This Item
New York: Sumptibus Duttonis, 1962. Eleventh Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 12mo 7" - 7. E.H. Shepard. The title page continues: Liber Celeberrimus Omnibus Fere Pueris Puellisque Notus Nunc Primum De Anglico Sermone in Latinum Conversus Auctore Alexandr lenardo. Not many beloved children's books can be said to have been published in a Latin translation. Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound in hardcover format, generally clean, lightly toned at worst, minimal rubbing to extremities. Previous owner's inscription at first free endpaper. Bound handsomely in a salmon colored cloth, sharp and distinct gilt lettering to spine. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, little worn, though sunned a bit at spine, protected by a plastic coat. Latin translation in 1962, lovely illustrations by E.H. Shepard. Illustrated endpapers front and rear (being of Winnie the Pooh's stomping grounds). Winnie Ille Pu was the product of over seven years of work, beginning with a German translation of the famous classic in 1951 which A.A. Milne personally congratulated him on, and then Lenard's draft Latin translation was continually refined over six resulting years. Frontis matter. 148 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
