About This Item
Washington: Published by Anderson House, 1935. First edition. 1 vols. 8vo. Original cloth. Some darkening and rubbing, else a very good copy from the library of Burgess Meredith. First edition. 1 vols. 8vo. Burgess Meredith's Copy. Burgess Meredith's copy. It is said that Anderson had Meredith in mind when he wrote the part "Mio" in "Winterset." "Mio" was the son of an unjustly executed Italian radical based upon the Sacco-Vanzetti case and one of Meredith's first very successful parts both in the theatre and in the film version produced the following year. Anderson's earlier play "God of the Lightning" was also based on this case.
