Macdonald, London, 1957. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. author's note. Black coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. "In the year 1590 there was discovered in the Kingdom of Scotland a 'conspiracy set afoot by sundry witches and sorcerers against the life of his Majesty King James The Sixth'." -- from the half title page, this is a fresh interpretation in novel form of that conspiracy. Minor softening to the backstrip with rubbing to the book corners and lower book edges. Light browning and foxing to the textblock edges and age toning of the pages. Light offset attending to the endpapers. Rubbing to the dustwrapper edges and panels with handling marks to the rear dustwrapper panel. Some sunning to the backstrip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
