About This Item
[BAUM, L. Frank]. The Wizard of Oz. Illustrated by [Libico] Maraja. NY: Grosset & Dunlap [1958]. 4to, 121pp. Color pictorial boards. Color illustrations throughout. Edges, spine ends, and corners all a bit rubbed, small gouge at base of front board, some wear at top of front board, previous owner's bookplate on front free endpaper, nonetheless, a clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket (1" closed tear at base of front panel, 2" closed tear at base of rear panel, a few other smaller tears and light edge wear, and some light sunning).
First Maraja-illustrated edition, having the correct dust jacket price and advts. Known for his illustration work on such classic novels as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan, Libico Maraja was one of the most influential post-war Italian illustrators. This illustrated edition of L. Frank Baum's classic novel highlights his wonderful talents, bringing a whole new perspective to this often-illustrated tale. Though the text has been abridged, it retains most of Baum's original text, including all of Dorothy's adventures as she travels south to find Glinda.
Synopsis
When Nancy searches through the knapsack of an amnesia victim, she finds an unusual ring. Before long, she is caught up in a second assignment from a beautiful harpist. Nancy's discoveries reveal an important connection between the hospital patient, the harpist, and enemies from abroad.
