About This Item

Edinburgh & London: William Blackwood, 1902. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition.. Times Book Club binding in light grey-green cloth, framed and lettered in black. A little darkened on board edges and spine, browning on endpapers, otherwise good. A historical novel of C16th Netherlands: "I, Count Derich de la Baye, tell this story, being a stranger in England for conscience sake. Yet, God having enabled me to keep my word, and having all I love best in the world with me here, I can now tell with a light heart of how, down by the shallow shores and waterways of the Netherlands, I fought the devil and his works, first for the sake of a man, and lastly for a woman's love".
