About This Item
Philadelphia: Perkins & Purves, 1843. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition. Original cloth backed teal boards, worn at edges. Small dampstain early on, pages uniformly browned. Suggestions for living to the workingman. His home, wife, garden, daughter, reading, memory, entertainment, trade unions, liberties, etc. 287pp. Written during the abrupt change from the apprentice system to a more factory oriented system, Alexander was concerned with the fate of the skilled worker ("The relation of master* and apprentice* was a closer and a warmer one in former days. The lad was willing to allow that he had a master, for a certain time and a certain purpose, and in expectation of being one day a master himself. He thought this was no more disgraceful, than the subordination of the scholar to his teacher, or the soldier to his captain.") Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Self Help & Motivation; Inventory No: 044016.
