New England: Printed for the Proprietor, 1813. Full calf. Good. 12mo; 264pp; contemporary smooth brown calf, spine with onlaid gilt stamped black label; 4 woodcut illustrations of which 3 depict various conjoined twins and one with other genetic anomalies; damage to head and tail of spine, scuffing to edges, scrapes and scratches, pages age toned with foxing, front fly leaf lacking top half, some light soiling; good. Salmon (1644-1713), practiced what today is considered to be observational or anecdotal medicine, that is, medicine not based in any scientific fact. He was not formally trained as a physician or pharmacist. This book, first published in the 1600s, deals with many gynecologic, obstetric, and sexual problems. In addition, there is general questions about the body and environment on which he opines.
