EB: William Pickering. Very Good. 1834. Hardcover. Leather. 8vo. Published by William Pickering London, 1825-1834. 16 volumes. Frontispieces. Bound in 3/4 leather with marble paper covered boards. Leather worn along the extremities esp at the spine. Volume I & 16 have some chipping at the joints and the crown of the spine lightly chipped. No ownership marks present. Foxing present. Text is free of marks, binding tight and solid. Bacon is credited as founder of systematic scientific thinking for the English speaking world and, with Descartes in France, stands as one of the most important scientific thinkers before Newton. "His pronouncement 'I have taken all knowledge to be my province' is the motto of his work.... Bacon made no contributions to science itself, but his insistence on making science experimental and factual, rather than speculative and philosophical, had powerful consequences." EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
