Beautifully bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe for E.P. Dutton and Company in contemporary dark red half morocco over marbled boards, raised bands and gilt titles and decoration to spine, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt all other edges untrimmed. Each volume illustrated with an engraved frontispiece, plus a folding plan to volume XII. An edition of 750 sets printed at the Chiswick press. Internally fine, with just a touch of spotting to preliminaries and some toning to plates. The binding shows well, slightly darkened to spines, and a lightly rubbed to joints and extremities, occasional scuff to boards. A very attractive set in a nicely aged fine binding. Near fine.
