Black- and red-lettered glossy title pages each with a different engraved illustration are undated but printed circa 1897. Preliminary publisher ad listing the title of each volume in the stated 32-volume set available for sale separately for $1.25 each. Putnam later expanded The Mohawk Edition to 33 volumes in 1900. Publisher's red cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Gilt-covered top edge. Frontispiece engravings in each volume protected with tissue. Decorative engravings at start and end of each chapter. Set is in VERY GOOD + overall condition with many volumes Near Fine to Fine. Bindings are all excellent with just slight touches of wear to the spine ends and corner tips and some small stains on some of the covers. Gilt lettering is very bright and unworn on every volume. A few volumes have lightly bumped bottom spine ends. No bumps to the corners except "The Deerslayer" has a bumped lower front corner and some stains on the boards. "The Pathfinder" has a long vertical scratch in the center of the front cover. All volumes are tightly bound and square with strong, sound hinges and excellent interiors with close to flawless pages and no previous owner markings or bookplates. An extra shipping charge will be required to mail this 32-volume set..

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
