London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1929. Reprint. Blue - Black Leather . Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Type: Z A 20 volume set of the Works of John Galsworthy in deep blue (faded to black along the spines). Gilt embossed lettering to the spine and front board. Uniformly bound in soft blue leather. Upper edges gilt and a purple cloth page divider to each volume. Decorative end papers. Titles are the Island Pharisees, The Country House, Fraternity, The Patrician, The Dark Flower, The Freelands, Beyond, Saint's Progress, Villa Rubein, The Burning Spear, The Inn of Tranquility, ( Volumes 1 - 11); Satires and a Commentary, Caravan I A Stoic, Caravan II The Apple Tree, Caraven III The First and the Last, A Modern Comedy I- The White Monkey A Silent Wooing, A Modern Comedy II - The Silver Spoon Passers By, A Modern Comedy III - A Swan Song, ( Volumes 15-21); Candlabra, Maid In Waiting ( Volumes 23-23). The books have light rubbing to the head and tail of the spines. A couple of niks to the head of the spine of The Dark Flower with a slight nik to the centre of the spine. Candelabra has rubbing with slight loss to the leatherette at the head of the spine and a couple of small areas of loss of the binding to the spine strip below the gilt embossed design on the spine. Nik of 0.3 cm to the head of the spine of a Modern Comedy II and also to Fraternity, the latter has a slight chip of loss assocaited with this.Significant rubbing and fraying to the head of the spine of Caravan II. A few corners are very slightly turned in. To summarise, ten very attractive bindings, 4 lightly rubbed to head or tail of spine and around 6 with some more noticable damage. A very good, most attractive part part set.
