About This Item

London: T. J., 1720. 1st Edition, 2nd Printing. Very Good. Contemporary and early collection of the works of Alexander Pope, published when the author was 32 years old and containing, 'The Rape of the Lock,' 'Essay on Criticism,' translations from Ovid, Homer, and others; as-well-as other works of poetry and thought. Bound in full contemporary calf over boards with a sympathetically rebacked spine with five raised bands, and a red label stamped in gilt. The spine is striking, the boards are aged though solid and square. A contemporary/early inscrption on the front pastedown, along with another dated 1792 to same; light pencil note on ffep. Frontispiece portrait of the author. Some minor staining in preliminaries, toning, some minor spotting, a few marginal rips (very minor); all text is clear and legible - a very good overall copy of an early collection from one of the Enlightenents greatest English poets.

Pages: (8), xvii-xxxvi, 150, (2), 99, (1)     Dimensions: 6¼ x 4 x (5/8)  .
