Chicago: Parliament Publishing Co., 1893. Two vols. Thick 8vo. xxiv, 800; [4], 805-1600 pp. Photo frontispieces., over 100 photos & text illusts. Blue cloth over beveled boards, gilt & silver lettering & decorations on front cover, gilt lettering on spines (minor dustsoiling & spotting to fore-edges, very minor rubbing, edgewear), still a VG bright set from the libraries of William Gladstone George (1840-1910) British-American pioneer in Grass Valley, CA, first mayor of Grass Valley, and later California State Senator; and Prof. Marvin Nathan. First edition of this massive compilation of addresses and reports presented at the Colombian Exposition. Of particular interest is the amount devoted to eastern religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Thai Buddhism, Bramo-Somaj, Shintoism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, as well as Islam. The editor has included papers on the role of Buddhism in Siam and Japan, the development of Confucianism, extracts from the Koran, and more. The Theosophical Society was also present at the Parliament, with such leaders as Annie Besant, William O. Judge, and J.D.
