About This Item
New York: Moffat, Yard and Company, 1908. First edition of Emily Post's third novel, published before she achieved fame with her seminal work, Etiquette. 12mo, original stiff paper boards. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in the year of publication, "Dear Mrs. Douglas, I have done this little book in the spirit of a memorial for my Father - & not for commercial reasons. Therefore I have a sentiment too, about its readers. Knowing your sympathy I am sending you this, in the hope that you will like it a little. Emily Post 10/34/1908." In near fine condition. Uncommon, particularly inscribed. One of five novels Post published before turning to non-fiction, Woven in the Tapestry tells the tale of the pagan King Thyaterion, his daughter the Princess Alaeia, the Hermit in the forest, and a stranger who becomes the Hermit's disciple. Post began writing when her sons were sent to boarding school and after the publication of five novels between 1904 and 1910, she began work on her first etiquette book, Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics, and at Home, at the age of 50. It became a best-seller with numerous editions over the following decades.
