About This Item
New Holland. Sydney. 1997 (Ist Edition). 8vo, X, 257pp. Hardcover with d/w in excellent condition protected by clear archival covering, text in excellent condition with only the prior owner's name neatly written on the half-title page. This is the epic story of the shipwrecked crew and the heroic journey from Preservation Island (below Flinders Island in Tasmania) by land to Port Jackson in 1797. The story is accurately based on a diary kept by one of the three survivors out of the seventeen that started the 400 mile treck, leaving the remainder of the crew still on the island several of whom were eventually rescued many months later. The Launceston museum has an excellent display of this fascinating story with surviving relics.
