About This Item
Pine Mountain, Ga.: WHR Books, 1994. First Edition. Hardcover. FINE. Limited to 850 copies. 757pp., index. editor's printed note laid-in. Plain mylar dj.
Blue cloth decorated in red and lettered in gilt. A very fine copy. A massive compilation, quoted extensively by antiquarian book dealers, of 11, 622 American books and pamphlets. The work was originally issued in 1954. Since then, Wright Howes continued to read, research and explore new data for an updated version of his reference on Americana. He thus made literally thousands of entries in his personal copy which included corrections, updates, additions, deletions, and improved bibliographical description. Here, then, is the culmination of his efforts. Howes added approximately 125 new titles and deleted about 50. He also expanded the book descriptions, corrected typographical errors, etc. In this new edition the symbols used by Howes denoting the value of titles has been continued and updated, with some additions by the editor. This invaluable work is no longer in print and has become quite obscure.
