About This Item

London: Edward Stanford, 1905. Book. Fair. Hardcover. First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. xiii, 158 pp. Index. 25 x 16cm. Numerous small maps in text. Fold-out maps of Amsterdam and Rotterdam Harbour. Back pocket contains a 74 x 76cm two-colour map, in very good condition, entitled Dutch Waterways which indicates 24 rivers and 265 canals. "The following notes, made at various times in view of, and in the course of, successive yachting trips to Holland during the last ten years, are put together for publication in the hope that they may prove useful to those who may contemplate similar excursions. Probably no part of Europe affords ampler opportunities of enjoyment to the yachtsman who seeks to combine the charm and freshness of foreign travel with the quiet pleasure that springs from navigating his own vessel. Holland, indeed, is best seen and studied from its waterways." - Introduction. Somewhat above-average wear to publisher's dark blue cloth lettered in gilt. Back hinge starting. No dust jacket, presumably as issued. Narrow opening in binding at page 48. A worthy vintage copy..
