Noted flaws notwithstanding, this is a rather handsome copy of the very scarce and very fragile first edition of this American classic. Moderate shelf/edge wear (tips through), very minor rubbing to paper boards, minor toning at edges of boards, small scratch at rear board, water stain at upper fore-edge of text block (largely subtle and non-intrusive), two pages show small clip at bottom edge of leaf, very minor sporadic spotting (not foxed), archival repairs include added inner endpages (rear fixed to rfep), joints of two leaves professionally reinforced, brown booktape reinforcing both joints at endpages, likely rebacked, else tight, bright and unmarred. Quarterbound, red cloth spine, black ink lettering and decorative elements, red and black ink lettering and decorative elements on cloth-backed pale blue paper boards, decorative endpages, frontispiece. 4to. 31pp. Illus. (color and b/w plates).
