About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1967. Reprint . Hardcover. Very Good+/Good. Wyeth, N. C.. One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, this one by N. C. Wyeth, who went to Florida to study the story's setting & craft his pictures. Orig. published in 1938, this is the first Scribner edition with the Wyeth illustrations from 1939, though research suggests this is a 1967 reprint. The hardcover book has bright yellow cloth-covered boards with a colorful paper pastedown to the front board. In 400 pages with decorative endpapers & 14 internal illustrations, all full-page, full-color. Condition is VG+: very clean, binding straight & strong, pages off-white. A few coffee-colored spots to outside bottom page edges. The price-clipped DJ is downgraded to only Good due to many short tears & a longer long (3") ascending from bottom edge of back cover. Also, old tape & another tear along top edge of back cover, across top spine, & onto top edge of front cover. Otherwise, colorful & bright; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free! Synopsis

An American classicâÈ'and Pulitzer PrizeâÈ'winning storyâÈ'that shows the ultimate bond between child and pet, now in a lush keepsake edition. No novel better epitomizes the love between a child and a pet than The Yearling . When young Jody Baxter adopts and orphaned fawn he calls Flag, he makes it a part of his family and his best friend. But life in the Florida backwoods is harsh, and so, as his family fights off wolves, bears, and even alligators, and faces failure in their tenuous subsistence farming, Jody must finally part with his dear animal friend. There has been a film and even a musical based on this moving story, a fine work of great American literature which won Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings a Pulitzer Prize. Complete with N.C. WyethâÈçs original oil paintings, this glowing work features a soft touch cover, gold foiling, and tip-in artwork.
