Photograph. Fine. Albumen stereoview [9 1/4 cm x 15 cm] on a yellow mount [10 cm x 17.5 cm] No backstamp. Geographical and Geographical Explorations and Surveys West of the 100th Meridian. Expedition of 1872. William Bell, who had established a studio in Philadelphia, was commissioned in 1872 by Lieutenant George Wheeler to accompany him as a photographer on an expedition into Arizona. Later, he worked as a photographer for the Pennsylvania railroad and with an expedition to Patagonia. (from Getty Museum).
