By a Gentleman of the Middle Temple. FIRST EDITION 1729. 12mo, approximately 150 x 90 mm, 6 x 3½ inches, pages: [2], iii, [1], [1]-162, signatures: A1-3, B-G¹², H1-9. Bound in contemporary full sheep, blind panel decoration to covers, no lettering or title. Binding rubbed, upper and lower hinges cracked at head and tail, but covers still attached, corners bumped and slightly worn at tips, slight loss of leather to edge of upper cover, inner paper hinges cracked, no free endpapers, some ink scribble to pastedowns, old ink name to top margin of Preface and foot of last page, neither affecting text, faint staining to upper margins, pale age-browning to pages, otherwise a very good copy. 2 copies only listed in ESTC: T58739, 1 in Uk and 1 in USA; Library Hub Discover, list 1 copy in British Library. John Bancks (1709 – 19 April 1751), also known as John Banks, was an English writer and a bookseller in Spitalfields. He wrote poetry and biography, including works on the lives of Jesus, Oliver Cromwell and William III, Peter the Great, History of the House of Austria, and other works.
