First published in Russian 1945; this English Edition of 1958 was first published 1958, and is its 2nd Printing of 1973. Book One of a 2-volume set; Progress Soviet Authors Library series. For this World War II novel, author Alexander Alexandrovich Fadeyev (1901- 1956) won the 1946 Stalin Prize. 414 pgs. Volume covers the underground anti-fascist Komsomol organization & the Young Guard forces fight against Nazi occupation of the Ukrainian city Krasnodon (of Ukrainian) in the combat known as the Great Patriotic War. The novel inspired two film versions (1948 and 1964).
