First edition, 4to, x, [2], 120 pp., 110 engraved plates on 55 sheets showing 587 figures, as usual with this book the plates have browning and spotting, interleaved with blank paper, ex-library copy with blind-stamps, later green buckram. One of the most popular seamanship manuals of the early nineteenth century as well as one of the most profusely illustrated maritime books of the period. This work "had an immediate success and continued for nearly forty years the text-book both in the Royal Navy and in the mercantile marine."DNB.
