About This Item

Hardcover dark brown cloth boards with gold gilt text to spine and front board are protected by a decorative, matt, unclipped, dustjacket that has edge wear front/rear/top/bottom with chips, a piece missing on rear and with blemishes. The spine, boards, and corners, are in very good condition with only slight wear at the top and bottom of the back strip. Corners are sharp and with no bumping. The binding is straight and tight, hinges are firmly attached with no cracking to the end pagers. Text block is firm with all pages attached with darkening along the page edges. Age tanning throughout. The interior pages are clean with no tears, no chips, or previous owner marks.

"The first of its kind; here the airman will find a comprehensive authority defining all the important words and terms pertinent to aeronautics. Thousands of new words and terms now available to the instructor, airman, student, research worker and writer. The book is illustrated throughout with thirty-three black and white photographs of planes, ending with a photograph of the Randolph Field Administration Building."

Charles Alfonso Zweng (1893 – 1968) in the 1940's and early 1950's managed the Pan Am Airlines navigation service. P.V.H. Weems taught him air navigation in the late 1930's. He was also an instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps and the author of numerous books on aviation and navigation.
