Pp. xii, 300; numerous halftone drawings of wrists, black-and-white photos of living apes and fossil elements and biomechanical diagrams of skeletons. Publisher's original brick red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, original pictorial dust jacket that is lettered in brown and orange, lg 8vo. This volume presents recent research concerning the locomotor adaptations in primates. The eleven papers discuss both the fossil evidence bearing on evolutionary problems and the results of recent field and laboratory studies on prosimians (lower primates) and higher primates. The papers cover selective topics in depth including classical biomechanics, anatomy, paleontology, and ethology as well as then new techniques such as cineradiographic and electromyographic employed in primate locomotion studies. No ownership marks and few signs of use.
