About This Item

Paris: Felix Alcan, Editeur / Librairies Felix Alcan Et Guillaumin Reunines, 1969. Reprint in FRENCH of 1909 Edition. Wrappers. Very Good/None. 8vo, printed wrappers, xi, [xii] + 796, [797] pages Weight: 1 lb. 12 oz. Louis Daville (1871 - 1933) was a prominent French historian who wrote on a variety of topics: early French voyages around the world; Bar-le-Duc at the end of the 16th century; the pretentions of Charles III, Duke of Lorraine for the French crown; and this important analysis of Leibnitz. The first French edition was published c.1909. Gottfried Wilhelm (von) Leibnitz) (1646 - 1716) was a prominent German polymath, and one of the most important rationalists, logicians, mathematicians and natural philosophers of the Enlightenment. In addition to his various inventions, Leibnitz wrote works on philosophy, politics, law, ethics, theology, history, and philology. His most prominent accomplishment was conceiving the ideas of differential and integral calculus, independently of Isaac Newton's contemporaneous developments. His rationalistic philosophy posited that this was the best of all possible worlds--a theme used notably by Voltaire in Candide. VERY SCARCE. SUPERIOR tight, unopened, uncut copy in wrappers. Light soil, a bit of chipping, and light uniform age-toning to remarkably intact wrappers; pages largely unopened and uncut. Text in FRENCH. May require extra postage if shipment overseas due to its weight.
