About This Item
Thomas Nelson, Melbourne, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. 350 g; XXXIV, 142 pages, last two pages blank, includes chapter notes, index. Original illustrated dust jacket. The book has a handling mark to the front edge of the text block approximately 3 inches from the top edge, otherwise it is in very good condition. The author was a columnist with the Australian Jewish Herald from 1964 to 1968 and his anti-Zionist views were attacked by the Victorian Jewish Board of Deputies Following a bitter wrangle the paper was forced to close. The author was refused space in any Australian Journal and what the Jewish Press will no longer publisher is what this book is about. The author offers strong support for Israel -- to the extent that, on the outbreak of the 1967 war, he even sent his son as a volunteer for service in a kibbutz. His thesis is that, whilst he welcomed the establishing of Israel, he is concerned that the diminishing significance of religion in Jewish life which he regards as a betrayal of Jewish values and an ultimate threat to Jewish survival outside Israel. -- front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
