About This Item

[ No. 42 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA ]: Heeren Bro's & Co, 1881. Stiff wraps. Good. [2], [2-blank], [81]-184 pages. 100+ pages total. Oblong 12 x 8 1/2 inches. Stiff printed wrappers over thin black cloth spine. Tipped in at pp 83 is small reduced price list for Prentiss' Patent Vises and small advertising pamphlet for Stephens' Improved Jewelers' Vise. Also laid in is a stiff paper 6 3/4 x 9 1/4 inch Herren Brothers & Co's Test Type for fitting keystone Interchangeable Spectacles and Eye Glasses (to see how small the type is you can read). Page 140 is printed too high on the page causing some minor trimming to the border. Minor soiling throughout (worst on the covers). First 2 pages is a tipped in pricing notice dated January 1st, 1881. Stiff wraps. This catalog is part of a series done by Heeren Bro's & Co. This is Part II: Tools, Optical Goods, &c (so indicated on the front cover). Quite a range of items offered, heavily illustrated. Much on watches, tools and lathes. A few on clocks. Also spectacles and a thin but wide assortment of other optical objects from magnifiers to microscopes to binoculars.

Rare, not in Romaine or Davis and Dreyfuss. OCLC shows only two catalogues by the company, both on music boxes. Another catalog by the company (Clocks, Bronzes and Cases, 216 pages) is currently on offer for 2500.
