About This Item

Lincoln, NE: Bison Books / University of Nebraska Press , 1971 Bison Books / University of Nebraska Press, Lincoln, NE. 1971. Softcover/Trade Wraps. Stated First Bison Book Printing, October 1971. This is a facsimile reproduction of 1857 edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good +; light rubbing to wraps; superficial scratches on rear wrap. No DJ. Pictorial card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. 328 pp 8vo. This book is a first-hand account of the frontier and of "Bleeding Kansas" written in 1856 by a correspondent of the London Times. It figured in the political controversy of the 1850s and is a staple of Western and Civil War history. It offers vignettes of "border ruffians" and frontiersmen, incidents of western travels, scenes of life in towns and on the plains, and a point of view about the factions clashing in Kansas. A clean very presentable copy.
