"Robert Calfee was a prominent figure in the field of cognitive psychology and education, known particularly for his work on the psycholinguistic processes involved in reading and writing. His research and scholarship touched on a variety of issues related to literacy, language acquisition, educational policy, and the training of teachers. Calfee spent much of his career at Stanford University, where he contributed significantly to the university's programs in psychological studies in education and in international comparative education. He also held leadership positions in professional organizations, including serving as president of the American Educational Research Association"
