"John Joseph Mathews (November 16, 1894 June 16, 1979) (Osage) became one of the Osage Nation's most important spokespeople and writers, and served on the Osage Tribal Council during the 1930s., Wahkontah was author's first book. This book, issued by an academic press, became a surprising best-seller when it was offered by the Book of the Month Club. This is a Very Good copy of either a Later Printing of the First Edition, or possibly the BOMC edition; at this time the book club editions were often undistinguishable from the trade versions. Orange cloth binding, with a Native American design on the front panel. Illustrated throughout by May Todd Aaron; charming illustrated endpapers. Moderate wear with some fading to the spine. Previous-owner signature opposite half-title. Clean text; 359 pages. An excellent reading copy of a wonderful book. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
