About This Item
New York, NY: Penguin Books, 1982. First Edition . Soft cover. COLLECTIBLE - NEW/None as Issued. Archival Photographs. BRAND NEW Copy. Human historical records of the Halley's Comet and man's reading of it's appearance in the Solar System. Comet visible from Earth to the naked eye. First recorded in the official Chinese chronicle Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji) of 240 BC. Halley, in 1682, was the first to determine what we saw were reoccurent re-appearances of the same comet. It seems Emperor Nero, in AD 60, to elude the comet's curse, condemned his successors to death! Then, in our times, the cautious sealed windows in Chicago, 1910, to advert "poisons" borne in the comet's tail. Text supplemented w/color and b/w photos and charts. A history of human conjections and eventual scientific understanding over much time. Last visit 1986; next, mid-2061.
