Professor George Wille (1880-1965), read for his B.A.LLB. at Cambridge. Returning to South Africa in 1903, he was a member of the Transvaal Bar for 18 years, where he practiced as an advocate. He became the first full-time professor of law at University of Cape Town in 1920, holding the chair until 1945, and lecturing chiefly on Roman-Dutch law. Many judges in South Africa and Rhodesia studied under him. Wille was one of the best-known legal writers in South Africa. He was known for his liberal outlook and for his support of equal legal rights to South Africa's underprivileged classes. 006-3

Hardcovers bound in tan buckram with spine titles on black fields. Moderate wear to the bindings, which have some smudge marks on the spines and covers. A sound set. Each volume comes with a thick paperback Supplement inserted at the rear (bound with this in mind; the binding allows for the inserts which are about 200 pages a piece). Volume I bears the imprint date of 1957. Volume II is 1959. Volume III is 1960. And Volume IV is 1961. The Index is for Volumes 200 to 254. The Index is only 4 volumes itself. Scarce.

Hannum (1915-2007) was a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1969 to 1991. Leo H. Charles Jared Ingersoll (1782-1862) was a prominent lawyer in Philadelphia. In this opinion he argues that the city of Philadelphia did not have the authority to extend the railroad over the Schuylkill River on the existing Market Street bridge. The city nevertheless used the existing Permanent Bridge to bring the railroad across the river to the city. Very scarce. In Very Good- Condition: disbound; last leaf is partially detached; minimal foxing; otherwise, clean.

Boards are heavily soiled and scuffed with dents and bumps to edges. Spine has been repaired. Small bookseller's plate on FEP from Wiley & Sons, Law Booksellers, Lincoln's Inn, London.
