Dark green cloth with gilt and black spine title; black series title on front board with black decoration on both boards. Dark brown endpapers. Part of the publisher's series Foreign Classics for English Readers edited by Mrs. Oliphant. Series list before title page indicates that this was no. 6 in the series. Gift inscription to Emily B. Dain on blank page following front endpapers dated May 1879. No date of publication; the publisher advertised this title in its April 1879 magazine. In Very Good Condition: ends of spine and corners are lightly rubbed; head of spine starting to fray; light spots along front joint; clean and tight.
