Introduction by John G. Mitchell, Sierra Club Books editor, preface by Hyde, includes a map of proposed highways and existing roads. While only the original 1971 date is shown, this includes a one page update on "The Situation" by June Viavant, which dates it as late 1973 or early 1974. Full color photos throughout, printed on heavy glossy stock. Includes Abbey's notes and a bibliography. Large format. 144 pp.

In the instance of this book at hand, Edward Abbey was still very much alive when photographer Philip Hyde and he collaborated on a photographic exploration of Abbey's favorite territory.
