Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Hardcover first printing with dustjacket, the author's story of his time in the French Foreign Legion "from the day he entered the recruiting depot at Marseilles, through training in North Africa and amphibious fighting in the Far East" until his release in exceptional cicumstances, book has moderate edge-rubbing and the former owner's name and bookplate are present on the inside of the front cover, the binding is tight and clean and the contents are fine, the jacket is price-clipped and has heavy edge-wear and several tape-mends, the illustrated front panel looks reasonably nice and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included .
