Description:
Boston: Ticknor and Fields,, 1865. First edition. A strikingly illustrated collaboration between mother and stepson, this book is a response to the "want often expressed for some seaside book of a popular character describing the marine animals common to our shores" (preface). Original brown pebble-grain cloth, spine lettered in gilt and ruled in blind, decorative centrepiece blocked and framed in blind, grey endpapers. With numerous illustrations, many full-page, after drawings by Alexander Agassiz. Spine sunned and ends…
