Included with the engraving is a description page printed one side in English, the other side in French. Engraving has some very light foxing, otherwise excellent with very bright colours, reverse is blank. Description page has offsetting to the English text. Approx Engraving Size: 6 x 6.5 inches (15.5 x 16.5 cms). Engraving states 'Published by William Millar, Jan 1804', however this example is from a later issue: the engraved sheet is watermarked 1817, the description sheet is watermarked 1811. Somewhat worn contemporary green morocco, gilt spine, boards with gilt frame, inner gilt bordure, all edges gilt. Lacks the List of plates and the last leaf in the french introduction. Colas 2112. Tooley 333. English-french paralelltext. With both an English and a French introduction. This copy lacks, according to Colas, the last leaf in the French (pp xxvii-xxviii). Tooley does not mention the French introduction (pp. xvii-xxviii) at all.

C1c. Very Good. Leather. Leather. Folio. Printed for W Miller by W Bulmer, London, UK. 1804. 50 handcolored plates. Xxviii, list of plates, then plates alternating with text page, English one side, French the other, all of which is unpaginated. Bound in 3/4 leather and marble paper covered boards with titles and raised bands present to the spine. Front board detached. Boards have heavy shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards are chipped and with some pieces missing from the spine ends). No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. These plates depict many popular characters in costume: peasants and villagers from Upper Austria, Upper Carniola, Neutra County, the Moravian Plain, Tyrolean, Hungarian, Bohemians, etc. As well as three plates of Jewish types (Jewish and Polish Jews, Jew from Montgatz). EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Folio (365 x 255 mm), [4], iv, [2, list of plates], [100]pp., duplicated title page in both English and French, 50 hand-coloured acquatint plates each with a leaf of descriptive text in both English and French, the plates are vibrant and nice and clean, fly-leaf ceased, cont. straight-grain rust red morocco, covers tooled with a wide rolled decorative border, matching tooled lozenge within, culminating in a ornately tooled central circle, spine divided into seven compartments by six raised bands, two lettered direct, with rest gilt tooled extra, all edges gilt, covers lightly spotted and faded, corners a little bumped, but overall a very ornate and handsome binding.
