Finely bound in dark green leather decoratively tooled in gilt with raised bands on the spine, and with inner dentelles tooled in gilt. All edges gilt-over-blue, moire endpapers, ribbon page markers, printed on thin paper. Bound with the book of Common Praise, being the Hymn Book of the Church of England in Canada (published in Toronto by Oxford, 1910) an owner inscription on the front and rear blank pages. The covers are rubbed. (Religion).

University Press, Oxford, for SPCK,, 1871. 8vo., text in large fount throughout, cream endpapers, title and preliminaries (only) mildly spotted; handsomely bound in contemporary full coarse-grain niger roan BY NEW, boards framed in blind, upper board blocked with mitre in gilt, back with five raised bands, second compartment lettered in gilt, gilt edges, rich gilt doublures, a remarkably bright, crisp copy in elegant period binding. Edition code q Pica 8vo. The binding is signed on rear paste-down. With the contemporary engraved presentation bookplate of Coventry Archidiaconal on front paste-down.

Uniformly bound in full purple morocco, the sides with gilt rules, floral sprays to corners, and central gilt device, the spines with raised bands and richly-gilt in compartments, inner dentelles gilt, yellow-coated endpapers, purple silk page markers, all edges gilt. The pair housed in a contemporary box of matching purple morocco. Sepia-tinted illustration of Christ bearing the cross pasted onto front pastedown of the Book of Common Prayer. Christmas gift presentations to flyleaves reading: " To Nell from John, Xmas 1923, with love". Some light wear, generally a very pretty pair in attractive bindings.

Black full calf, panelled, the spine designed in six panels. Marbled end papers. Ruled throughout in red. Frontispiece by Gaspars, ("R. White Sculp."), with the imprint of 1709. The Psalms has its own title page: (London: Printed by Tho. Hodgkin, for the Company of Stationers, 1703). Text in two columns, decorative initials throughout; the Psalms in three columns. A disbound, heavily used copy with both covers detached, the first 10 leaves loose, old stains to lower edge and fore edge, considerable wear to the edges of some leaves (slight loss to the lower corner of a few early leaves). Complete, and in need of a binder's attention.

Contemporary full maroon morocco, sides ruled in blind and richly decorated with gilt-foliate motifs, spine with raised bands and gilt-decorated compartments, title directly gilt-lettered to spine, inner dentelles gilt, yellow-coated endpapers, black silk ribbon page-marker, all edges gilt. Profusely illustrated with wood-engraved vignettes and historiated initials throughout. "The language of the Prayer Book is now part of the whole language… and as a source of spiritual inspiration, it is for most Englishmen second only to the Bible" (PMM 75).

A few quires towards front of the volume creased with occasional tears and loss to few pages; damp damage and tears to outer lower corner of final 30 leaves with loss of text; occasional light spots and browning, otherwise a sound copy of this finely printed, monumentally large lectern edition. Contemporary black morocco, almost imperceptibly rebacked with original backstrip laid down, elaborately gilt, spine gilt with raised bands, gilt inner dentelles, a.e.g., contemporary marbled pastedowns and free endpapers. On the front cover the center of the diamond-shape design is lettered "The Honorable Samuel Rous Esq. Barbados," surrounded by a stylized fern border.
