Attractively bound in half warm brown leather over tan cloth, color frontis, many additional black and white plates printed on a parchment colored background, 8.25" tall. Some expected edgewear and rubbing, some roughness to the spine foot and surface scuffing near the spine head, minor smudging and spotting to the cover cloth, good hinges, sound text block, foxing to half-title, clean pages, no names or other markings.. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Very good. 8vo. vii,(1),190pp. The first edition in book form with all the proper text points and the Fildes illustrations but without the ads at rear. 3/4 green morocco, gilt, over textured green cloth. Spine with five raised bands. Steel engraved frontispiece portrait of Dickens. Added engraved title with a large vignette. Illustrated with 12 woodcut plates. Hinges and extremities rubbed but sound. This work, Dickens' last book, was originally issued in wrappers in six parts. At the time of his death he had not yet written the 7th and final part, and to this day the identity of Edwin Drood's killer remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of literature. London: Chapman and Hall. [1870]. Two books bound in one volume. 'Christmas Books' is an early printing of the collected edition; 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood' is a first edition. Contemporary half navy morocco with marbled boards, five raised bands and gilt titles and decorations to the spine. All edges gilt. Both titles are illustrated throughout in black and white. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the extremities a little worn, the corners very slightly bumped. Internally both titles have occasional light spotting, foxing, and offsetting, the contents are otherwise clean and without inscriptions or stamps. A handsome volume. 'Christmas Books' contains 'A Christmas Carol', 'The Chimes' 'The Cricket on the Hearth' 'The Battle of Life' and 'The Haunted Man'.
