Description:
London: Ward Lock & Co. no date [circa 1929]. [Adventure novel] FIRST EDITION, early printing. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.255; [1], blank. Publisher's red cloth decorated and lettered in black to upper cover and backstrip. Verso of half-title lists five books including 'Daredevil', being published after this title (also 1929). This impression shares the same pagination as the first edition (i.e. the same setting of the sheets), and has the same binding. The only difference is the list of titles, and the first being dated. Some light spotting, clean edges, pencil name to free endpaper, cloth moderately handled with some light rubbing and sunning to spine. Very good. Rollicking adventure story featuring Ramon Francisco De Castilla y Espronceda Manrique, a notorious South American bandit who expands his operations into New York City and London. This is an undated, early impression of the first book-form edition, the tale having been serialised in the Empire News, Spring 1929.
